New Book Examines Afterlife Issues from Dedicated Scientist’s Perspective

PUTNAM, Conn. – Stories of paranormal encounters abound. Some are pure fiction with no greater intent than to chill a few spines, while others are deeply rooted in personal experiences. Rare among either set, however, are detailed personal accounts from someone with a traditional scientific background. Dr. Gwendolyn R. Nelson-Bichard offers just that in her new autobiographical account, Death, The Ultimate Wake Up Call (A Message of Life) (now available through AuthorHouse).

Gwen’s journey begins in childhood with the realization that she could experience supernatural phenomena even though she did not know the terminology for her experiences. She actually endeavors to avoid and ignore these encounters until a near-fatal incident and the deaths of dear loved ones pushes her to examine and chronicle her occurrences. Set in what is claimed to be one of the most supernaturally active cities in the world – New Orleans – Death, The Ultimate Wake Up Call tells the story of how Gwen’s fight to stifle her impressionable environment does more to enhance than to suppress her belief in the afterlife.

“Increasing numbers of people are facing the deaths of loved ones at this stage in time due to war, natural disasters, terrorism and disease,” she says. “The prospect of losing someone permanently is frightening. To know that someone with credentials is willing to go on record with her experiences of supernatural phenomena and chronicle it as an experiential treatise as well as an analytical process will give hope to someone who despairs and relief to someone who already believes.”
For years, Gwen’s younger sister, Genell, is her only trusted confidant. Although they have very different personalities, both girls are gifted with the ability to “see” events and beings not of this world. The sisters grow ever closer and Gwen feels comfortable revealing her supernatural encounters with the one person she knows truly understands. Then tragedy strikes when Genell is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Afterward, through a series of ethereal encounters with the spirit of her sister, Gwen finally realizes that death is only a temporary separation.

Gwen Nelson-Bichard is a native of New Orleans. She holds a Ph.D. in chemistry and has worked at universities in Louisiana and Georgia. She spent 14 years as a chemist with the Polaroid Corporation before starting her own food business, Genell Rose, Inc.
